Asylum Chapel Wedding in London

Asylum Chapel Wedding in London

Stacey and Max were one great couple. They’d decided they wanted to have an Asylum Chapel wedding in London and that it should be one of the most relaxed, fun, stress-free wedding days imaginable. And I think they achieved it.

I’ve photographed a few weddings at the Asylum Chapel in Peckham and it’s one of my favourite places for couples to get married in London. It’s a hard venue to photograph as it’s dark and atmospheric inside (even on the sunniest of days) but the challenge of getting great photos is well worth the extra effort.

After the ceremony, reception and speeches at the Asylum Chapel we then all jumped onto a London Bus and headed off to The Lordship in East Dulwich for some food and dancing.

A Beautiful Autumn Wedding – changeable and challenging!

The wedding day had all the hallmarks of a late Autumn wedding – early sunsets, changeable weather, brisk winds and constantly changing light. I love that time of year as I’m always having to work hard to adjust to new conditions and make photos that reflect what each moment looked like throughout the day.

A lot of couples are attracted to my style of wedding photography because they’re planning similar a relaxed day – ‘it’s not a photoshoot, it’s a party’ is one of the most common phrases I hear, and I couldn’t agree more.

I want to tell the story of the wedding I’m invited to, not one I’m imagining in my head. To do this I think I have to feel present in the moment, reacting to what’s around me and not planning what photos I’m going to take next. The story evolves as the day goes on.

Don’t get me wrong I’m aware of every aspect of what’s planned and the timings of the day (I’ll always have a planning meeting with couples a month before the wedding) but I’m always looking out for the spontaneous, unplanned moments as well – this is what makes every wedding unique to the couple.
