Oxford Wedding Venues – Bodleian + Perch

I’ve delved back into the archives again for a lovely wedding I photographed at two Oxford wedding venues in June 2018.

Oxford Wedding Venues – Bodleian Library and The Perch

It was at the Oxford wedding venues of The Bodleian Library and The Perch – two places I hadn’t photographed before which is always exciting. I’ve photographed in Oxford a few times at a few wedding venues and it is a beautiful city to work in.

I love it when couples decide that they can walk from venue to venue, it’s a great opportunity to get some candid photography of the journey and to join the story together. Pip decided that she was going to road test her new red Jimmy Choo shoes and walk quite a distance from where she was getting ready to The Bodleian Library. It’s always fantastic seeing people’s reactions as a bride moves through a city like Oxford – everyone is always so supportive and smiley. I love it.

Bodleian Library Wedding

The Bodleian Library is a stunning building in the heart of Oxford to get married – and a joy to photograph. The Convocation House where we were has one of the most breathtaking ceilings I’ve ever seen (and I’ve photographed in a few cathedrals). Once you’ve seen it you do end up spotting it in quite a few historical dramas – I think it last popped up in The Favourite.

As they say on the Bodleian Library Wedding Website:

“A special day in a unique wedding venue

Set in the heart of the ‘city of the dreaming spires’, the Bodleian Libraries are a historic venue steeped in romance and elegance.

Some of our grandest rooms are licensed for civil weddings and civil partnerships, all in Oxford’s historic Bodleian Library: Divinity School, Convocation House and Chancellor’s Court. Whether you want a small and intimate ceremony, or a jubilant celebration with all of your friends and family, the Bodleian Libraries will provide the most magnificent backdrop to your wedding day.”

After the ceremony at The Bodleian it was off for a rainy walk through Oxford down to the river to pick up a couple of boats to leisurely takes us to The Perch for the rest of the wedding day.

Weddings at The Perch

The Perch is a beautiful countryside pub that caters for weddings up to 200 people. Their approach is very similar to mine in that each wedding day should be bespoke  – so no cookie cutter, one size fits all wedding but a unique and personal approach that reflects the day the couple want to have. As they say on their website:

“The perfect setting for your perfect day.

Enjoy impeccable service, great food, champagne boat arrivals and an enchanting day at our beautiful, centuries-old riverside wedding venue just outside of Oxford city centre. Our fully bespoke, canopied marquee hosts up to 200 guests in a stylish yet casual setting and is the ideal choice for couples seeking something that little bit different from the norm.

We can customise our space to fit your plans and ideas, and create the perfect day for you, your family and friends. We believe every wedding is different and you should have your day as you wish, with some experienced guidance to help you along! We do not offer set packages, we believe your day is unique and no two weddings fit the same mould. Come chat through your ideas, we love to make your plans a reality.”

It is a great set up. Beautiful grounds, a secret passage to the river, fabulous service and food plus it’s out of town so you can party late and hard – AND WE DID!!
