How To Entertain Your Wedding Guests
More and more couples are looking to find ways to keep their guests entertained at the wedding. The couples I work with nearly always describe the day they want as a relaxed, fun party and are looking for interesting ways to keep their guests (and themselves) amused throughout the day – especially in the traditional ‘lull’ time between the meal and the dancing.
Having been to a lot of weddings I’ve seen some great ideas so I thought I’d share and few and hopefully provide some inspiration.
Games, Entertainers & Drink
It seems people love games, entertainers and drink – sometimes separately but often together. If you can fill the time between eating and dancing with a cocktail hour, competitive sack race, free ice cream, baffling magician and a photo booth no-one is going to leave the wedding early!
Here are a few of the ideas (and recommendations) on how to entertain your wedding guests I’ve seen:
Ice Cream Van
People love Ice Cream – it brings out the kid in everyone. I’ve seen people queuing in the rain for a free 99.
Inflatable Surfing
Get a mechanical surf board, some competitive guests and someone manning the stop watch you are on to a winner. As people only tend to last 10 seconds on the board – everyone gets to have a go…
Magician
It’s a classic (but for a reason) either at the reception, during the meal or after a great magician keeps everyone amused and confused.
Sam Fitton has got to be the best wedding magician!
Cocktail Hour
Why not fill that time between drinking with the meal and drinking in the evening with a cocktail hour? Personally designed signature cocktails served to guests by your own mixologist (hire someone in or nominate friends!)
Photo Booth
It now seems to be a staple at most weddings but a really well equipped and run photobooth never fails to keep everyone lining up for a free photo.
Smile-o-matic has to be one of the top photo booths in the UK!
Vodka Luge
Ice, vodka, wow factor. Nothing else to say…..
Garden Games
On a warm summers evening having a few simple games available keeps everyone amused. It can be simple homemade games or a full carnival, you soon find out who the most competitive guests are.
Hire a Bus
Getting people from A to B at a wedding can be a nightmare, especially when you need everyone to arrive pretty much together. Hiring a wedding bus keeps the party going from the church to the venue.
Take your Dog
More and more I’m seeing couples bringing their dogs to their wedding. I’m all for it – and I’ll even walk your dog during the meal (I’ve done it and it’s all part of the service).
Bake Off!
If you want everyone to get involved in the day don’t cater dessert but get your guests to bake it. Set up a table for them to fill with home made cake and then get each table to judge the cakes during the meal and award prizes. Everyone feels involved in the day and you get pudding supplied for free!
A Great Band
You can’t go wrong in entertaining people with a great band. This’ll keep everyone happy till it’s last one standing.
Most of the top wedding bands in the UK can be book through Alive Network
