Wedding Photography : Moment By Moment – The Bride’s Speech

The Bride’s Speech
It is still a rare occurrence that a bride chooses to speak at her own wedding. Whether it’s through shyness, embarrassment, tradition or simply because she’s not expected to and is happy to not have that pressure – I don’t know. But I do love it when a bride steps forward and addresses everyone – there’s an equality that says I don’t need anyone to speak on my behalf and ‘we’ welcome you to ‘our’ wedding day.
Wedding at St.Stephen’s Church in Hampstead
Because there is no set formula for the bride’s speech it often very personal and revelatory – I learn so much about couple’s during all the speeches that it’s often a favourite memory of the day for me.
This particular photograph was taken at Rebecca and Richard’s wedding at St.Stephen’s Church in Hampstead, London. It’s a deconsecrated church that is used for civil ceremonies and wedding receptions. The architecture and setting is just stunning – you can see the full blogpost of their St.Stephen’s wedding photography here.
Giving the Bride Status and Power
This particular photograph is taken from near the back of the stage during Rebecca’s speech. I wanted to take the low wide angle so that I could include her, the guests and set everything in context of the stunning church. Also the low angle make the bride the tallest person in the photograph giving her status and power – another important way to emphasise her independence and equality on the day.
