Victoria Baths Manchester – Swim, Play & Wedding
Share this
I was so pleased to hear on the BBC news this morning that for the first time in 25 years the Victoria Baths in Manchester will be open this weekend for swimming. It’s a truly spectacular art nouveau building and I had the great joy of being there to photograph the wedding of Lyndsey and Matt in 2013. This weekend it’s open again for swimming and I’ll certainly try and pop along – if only to visit the Hip Hop Chip Shop that’s popping up to serve fish& chips with a side of hip hop culture!
Fish & Chips with a side of Hip Hop
It’s a space that has been used for many purposes since it close as a swimming baths in 1993. The Victoria Bath Trust saw it’s potential and it’s been used as a community space, art gallery and I even photographed some theatre there a couple of years ago as local Primary Schools performed Shakespeare lead by North West Arts.
From their website:
“Victoria Baths is a space full of potential. Everyone who visits the building knows it – those who swam here, those who envisage a bright future, those who are intrigued by its past; those who understand the architecture, the social history, the importance of swimming and looking after the body, those who simply come to see.”
Beautiful & Quirky Wedding Venue in Manchester
The Victoria Baths in Manchester has become a really popular venue for weddings in recent years. It’s beautiful, quirky, slightly down at heel and a unique place for couples to wed or hold their reception. I photographed a wedding there in 2013 and would love to go back again. It’s the sort of wedding venue that the couples I work with really enjoy – it’s relaxed, gorgeous and can be used in a very bespoke manner for people who want a wedding to fit their own vision.
I’ll share a few of the photographs I took on Matt & Lynsey’s day so you can get an idea of what a fabulous location to get married this is….
