Formal Wedding Photography

Whilst I think that formal wedding photography is important to families I never feel that it should dominate the day – no one wants to spend their wedding day standing in a line looking across at their other guests having fun!

I like to discuss the groups that couples want before the wedding day as well as when we will be taking the formal photography. On the day it’s really helpful if couples can assign a couple of people to round up families at the appointed time. I’ll suggest where we will take the photos on the day because a lot is light dependant, I never want to face a group of people into a blazing sun!

Once everyone is ready we’ll then go across and take some relaxed family photos.

I find if everyone knows what is happening and when it doesn’t have to be the stressful part of the day and can be achieve quickly and easily.

It’s the same with portraiture – for me it’s about couples being themselves. I’ll find some great light, ask a couple to talk to each other and then make some relaxed portraits from their interactions…. then at the end we’ll do a couple to the camera for parents to have on the mantelpiece!
